  • Old Threads, test

Can someone that isn't a Moderator or Admin. please take a look at the forum and let me know what you see?

If I did this correctly, then you shouldn't be able to see or access any thread that is older than 1 year old.

It appears that Mods and Admins will still be able to see/access/respond to older threads.

    Thanks
    Brian

        weird.

Someone else just told me they can't see anything past last year.
Not sure why some people can see old threads and some can't

haha. I looked, but you aren't.

You and cooliemae have the same exact settings.
The only difference is that you have been a member longer and have more posts

I can only see 8/23/2015 or newer... this is true for when I am logged into the website and when I am just viewing it without having logged in.

it must have something to do with your tenure. But, it would appear that a newer member looks, they can't see anything beyond 1 year old.

I'm hoping that if a brand new SPAMMER, I mean member, creates an account, then they won't be able to dredge anything up past 1 year old.

Would someone be willing to set up a dummy account and let me know what you can see as a brand new member?

I just created a new account as a test, and I was only able to view threads that were less than 1 year old. I think 1000 may be the magic number. It looks like a tenured member with a high post count (I think 1000 or more) will be able to see all threads and posts. Anyone with less than that will only be able to see things less than a year old.

I think we just fixed the issue of spammers digging up old threads.

There is a function that exists which requires Mod or Admin approval before a post or thread will show up on the forum. But, I don't know if there is a way to make this rule apply for new members only. From what I can tell, if I turn this function on it will require approval for all posts and threads from all members. And, we don't want that. I need to look into this one further. But, I think we are headed in the right direction with our forum.

Can't see any old threads. Great solution.

Here in General Discussion I only saw back to 8-24-15 without being logged in.

However I looked in one of the Freebies subforums and could see all the way back to 11-5-05 without being logged in.

Have you applied your techniques to all the forums already?

No. I haven't applied this rule to all forums yet. I wanted to test it first.
I plan to apply this to all forums and sub forums before the end of today

That's fantastic, Brian. Thank you. I have been starting to close threads as they popped up but that's a far better solution.
