  • what kind of mpg do you get

i just filled up my passat for the second time and it got 31.33 combined city hwy, first tank only yielded 27. took a little 100 mile road trip with this tank and im guessing the mpg gain is from that extra hwy driving.

all in all im really happy in comparison to my el camino that got around 16 hwy and maybe around 12 in the city. also a big upgrade in mpg compared to my moms cadillac that i'd been driving for the past few months, it gets around 18 and i was filling up every 4 or 5 days. this passat has a range of over 500 miles to a tank

I drive a 2013 Dodge Avenger r/t. I get around 26-28 mpg. 80% of that is highway miles to and from work. I also get about a 325 mile range. I could push it further but I rather not. I fill up maybe every 3-4 days. I would say I fall in the "average" range.

I could have gotten a little 4 cylinder but with me driving a lot of miles on the highway I wanted something that could get up to speed. I dont know about you guys but in the Chicago burbs I'd say 90% of the drivers drive like complete d-bags. They either won't let you merge or try to bully and push you out of the way.

For example the other day I was passing a string of 3 semi's going 75 in a 65. (Mind you I already was passing them like they were standing still, they were going about 55mph) There was a guy riding my bumper flashing his lights and honking his horn, swerving left to right to try to pass me on the shoulder. I'm already passing traffic at 10 over. I'm not going any faster than that.

        I drive a 2012 Hyundai Elantra.
It's advertised for 38 highway and 28 city.
I only get about 34 highway and 25 city.

I drive a 2012 VW Golf TDI... Yes, one of those "cheating" diesels, I'm waiting for the official release within the next week about what VW is going to do about it... Anyway, I love my little Golf, and get 38-40mpg around town, and 45+ on the highway. Average combined is about 42mpg.

This "Dieselgate" business is really disappointing, because I was planning to keep this car for 10+ years.... Now after 4 years, it's looking like my options are going to be either sell it back to a dealer or get the "cheating" software fixed and likely sacrifice my awesome fuel economy and/or other engine performance.

My new Acura TLX has pleasantly surprised me. It gets just over 36 mpg highway. Combined is 30. Not bad for a semi-sport sedan. That makes me happy. My truck was 17 hwy and 14 combined. Of course my TLX can't tow anything or haul 2,000 lbs of topsoil so there's that.

Nutria is referring to this thread:

It started about bad drivers doing stupid things (like the guy trying to pass you) and evolved into people generally only caring about themselves and not anyone else around them. That guy obviously didn't care what the speed limit was, what traffic conditions were, or anything else. All he cared about was that you were in his way.

I don't really know what my mpg is. On our van, it calculates it automatically and runs about 26 on the highway and 21 in the city. My car is probably a little more efficient than the van.

i wanted the TDI and 45mpg but it was out of my price range, they were closer to 20k with something low mileage. settled on the gas 1.8T for under $14k thats rated for 26/34 i think, really happy with this last tank at 31mpg and am looking forward to a long road trip where i can see 33 or 34

We had a Chevy Volt for a while and it averaged 170 mpg.

16 Accord V-6, 33 on the highway, 22 in the city. It has cylinder deactivation on the highway which seems to really help.

old car was a 98 Jetta TDI that I sold with 190k miles on it. Averaged 53mpg over the 11 years I owned it.

Now we have a 97 and 99 F250 powerstrokes. Both crew cab and 4x4.

Average between 17-21 mph depending on city vs highway

not bad for vehicles with a curb weight of 7500 lbs
