You should definitely get the guy's info that rear ended you.

But, you may be on the hook for the guy that you hit. Even though it technically wasn't your fault his insurance will argue that you shouldn't have been so close behind him.

Keep your insurance out of it if possible. Pay out of pocket and avoid a rate increase.

I think you will be able to collect from the rear-ender (or his insurance), but you might well get stuck having to pay out to the car that you bumped.

I was the last car in a 3 car accident last summer. The insurance adjuster for the car that started the accident told me that they were paying everyone's claims and I wouldn't have to go through the middle car's insurance.

No fault accident, treated almost no differently then a cracked windshield by a rock. Don't do anyone favors by not claiming it.

Hopefully the person who caused it has insurance. If the person who caused it doesn't have insurance then it'll be on your insurance.

I was in one of these once. I was the middle car. The lady who instigated the whole thing - texting while driving with NO apologies whatsoever, was responsible for all damages.

My wife was the middle car in one of these accidents. Person that caused it (one that hit her from behind and pushed her into another car) was responsible for all damaged cars.

You're a millionaire so you shouldnt have any problem paying the $1,000 deductible if forced to. Not sure why its even an issue? This is what an emergency fund is for. You should be reimbursed at some point.

I got into a similar accident back in college. I was rear ended and pushed into the car in front of me (which I wasn't even that close to). The guy rear-ended me going like 45 mph!

Even though the guy in fault got charged with reckless driving and was driving on a suspended license, my insurance company still had to pay the damages on my car. They then subrogated through the other guy's insurance.

It may depend on what state you are in. Especially if you are in a no fault state.

i just got back from the adjuster and a check for $2300, damage is very minimal and cant really be seen by the naked eye. im probably gonna call a bumper repair guy from craigslist to touch up the scuffing and pocket the cash.

i thought that since the car is bank owned that the insurance company would cut the check straight to a repair shop but they made the check out to me

Sounds like a plan. I'd do the same.
I thought you financed the car. If so, then it is not bank owned, not at all. You are the owner. You do have a loan, but you are the owner. you can sell it, burn it, eat it.

The bank owns the car and holds the title until the loan is paid off. I'm very surprised the insurance skipped over the bank with the claim check.
