I pick up change too; I don't go looking for them though.

I can't remember precisely the last time I picked up anything, maybe a month or 2 ago. So, I might be getting $0.05 * 6 = $0.30 / year in free change.

You will never find me watching ESPN. Ok, just maybe during the Olympics, but that's it.

I'm another that picks up change. When I was 20 or so, I started saving my pennies in a jar like many of us do. After 30 years of doing this I finally got tired of having all these containers of pennies lying around and finely cashed them in.

Went to the local Coin Star machine at the grocery store and needed a shopping cart to carry all the pennies in. After feeding all the pennies in after an hour or so, I had around $400.00 which I simply exchanged for an Amazon gift card.

If I live another 30 years I'll do it again!

Sorry but I don't even know what that is.

I did have a run with a mildy crazy gentlemen when I went to pick-up some change on the ground. I was at Walmart and had noticed the change laying on the ground at the end one of the self checkouts. There was a man that I would say was in his 60 with (I assume) his grandkids. I was picking up a drink at one of the front fridges and had to walk past the checkout. As I made my way back I noticed that the coins were still there and the guy and kids looked like they were getting ready to leave.

So I bent down and picked up the change and boy did I get an earful. He expounded on how the change was his and that it was illegal for me to pick-up change off of the floor. I apologized for the mistake and offered him the change, but continued to get lambasted by him about my decision to pick-up the change. I ended up just putting the change on the checkout stand and walking away.

Good lesson picking up change when others might want to claim it. The funny thing was that it was something like 13 cents.

                Some things money can't buy.
In a way, I think you got much more than 13 cents.

I thought of this thread this morning. I went out early to take down the signs from our yard sale yesterday. I found a dime near the curb as I was crossing the street. Yes, I picked it up.

And it was economically viable to spend that 5 seconds!!

Definitely, especially since it was more like 2-3 seconds, though I did then spend another second or two looking around to see if there was any more change.

Seriously, I often find that where there is one coin, there is more than one coin. Not today, though.
