It's funny how people's expectations can be different. If I walk into your store and you immediately come up to me and ask to help, you can bet I won't buy anything and I won't be back. I can't stand going into a store and having a salesperson come up to me unsolicited. Just leave me alone and let me shop. If I need something, I'll come and find you.

This is exactly the kind of look--a 'puzzling' look from the sale person after we bought a new dining table last year on Black Friday weekend. We went to RC Willey. When found the dining table we really love, told the sale lady we want this one. She then proceeded in great length about their great financing deal with 'zero percent, blah, blah--not to be rude but we let her talk a bit and let her finish. Then told her we will be paying cash for it (debit card), the look she gave us was priceless.

I agree - it is really annoying. A simple "Hi, my name is and I'll be over here if you need anything" would be my preferred approach from the sales staff.

However, when I do go to a store and need someone to help me it's like everyone has left the building.

Yep, a quick greeting is fine but that's it. Don't ask what I'm there for. Don't try and show me anything. Certainly don't try to sell me anything. And don't hover over me. Go about your business and leave me alone.

Did you get them to give you a discount for paying cash? Many furniture stores will do that because, of course, zero-percent financing isn't really free. They build that into the price. If you pay cash, you can usually get 5% or more off.
