I used to have a couple of masks around to wear in extremely cold weather, but found a knitted or crocheted scarf did the job far better and held up better. So, no masks for me. It is interesting to see how the fear is pushing the shopping industry not only for masks, but hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies. A friend of mine in another state was shopping at a Dollar Tree and a woman in front of her cleaned out the shelves of hand sanitizer and wet wipes. Bet she's going to scalp those as well. Yesterday our local Kroger had an empty shelf of hand sanitizer. Was I looking for it? Nope. We keep one in each of our vehicles and I have a spare in our closet which we use when we are out and about and feel grimy. My thing is whether it is the Coronavirus or the flu, sick people need to stay home and not infect others. Or if they get out, it should be for medical care, not acting like it is a badge of honor to be out working or at school or doing something fun and bragging about their fever or illness.

Coronavirus, anyone wearing masks or buying masks?

Nope not buying anything. If I'm ill I will stay home, rather than wear a mask. We use soap in our home. How illness manifests starts with your own immune system. As the numbers show the majority of people have MILD symptoms AND recover. This is a self limiting illness if your immune system is not compromised. If you have a compromised immune system your risk is higher, just with any other virus or bacteria. My other blog is Your Organized Friend.

Whats funny is for some reason australians are buying toilet paper in bulk..the shelves are always empty since this virus has been here..people just hoarding it...I couldn't figure out why apparently people think that we will run out because it comes from china...but it doesn't we have factories here that produce most of our toilet paper in country so its kind of funny but hard to get...but hand sanitizer and face masks have been impossible to get so have had to order online...and no not because of the carona virus but because my hubby has cancer and it is the start of flu season here...people are making it hard

NO .. I like Fresh Air... if I have to worry about every potential things that can harm me .. I will never live... Corona Virus is not on my top 10 list of things I worry about that when I get out of the house... just because it's on TV more than any other potential danger doesn't make it more dangerous

Well, I thought of this thread last night when the recommendation to wear masks was made. QuarterMillionMan, you called it.
The recommendation sounds like it is aimed at protecting other people from you (like Kork mentioned) because it is now thought that there is a lot of asymptomatic transmission of covid-19.
So, I have been scouring the internet for patterns and trying out different designs. I've sewn up a couple of masks, but I have quite a few to go since a person has to change out masks each time going out.

Masks are primarily to prevent you from spreading illness to others.
Yes, they may keep you from touching your face while you're wearing them, but most non-medical people don't properly handle their masks anyway so they're of questionable value in keeping you safe. Also, if you're still touching other surfaces, a shopping cart, counters, your phone, door handles, etc. you're probably just as likely to get infected with or without a mask.
Masks are to protect others from you, not the other way around. That's why in Asia, long before COVID, it was common for a sick person to wear a mask when going out in public while in America, healthy people would put on a mask when they were visiting a sick person. Totally different mindset.Steve
