My DH has a disability. He will tell you himself this is something that cannot be fixed. This is something I knew when I married him. NOT an option to keep cars anymore for him. We are leasing permanently. He has been diagnosed since childhood it's not arguable and not negotiable. And yes the new car with latest technology is necessary, not a want a need for him. Not for me. Every month we will take a hit and pay a car lease for as long as he wants to drive.
    Good job on the sale.

As for going forward, have you explored if your DH is eligible for any type of assistance due to his disability? I have a friend with ALS and he was recently able to get thousands of dollars to pay to put a wheelchair lift in a new van as well as install hand controls. They never could have afforded it on their own.

Not until he officially is declared legally blind. Then the ballgame changes. This will likely happen to affect his driving before he is actually blind. It's also what happened to his mom and she did leave working with medical leave at 55 i think.

We are comfortably on track to be solid financially by 50 if not sooner. He'll work though as long as he wants. He'll have vision just limited peripheral will curtail driving. As such nighttime is an issue for him now.

Hence why he can only drive pretty much 1 car subaru legacy. Maybe the BMW with the safety but the subaru legacy is higher rated. Also why we are leasing.
