If you don’t mind flying on Southwest, you can earn a companion pass (CP) and your companion goes along for the cost of the security fee for at least a year. There are folks on flyer talk who strategize earning the CP as close to Jan 1st (your points balance they count towards status goes to zero on Jan 1st) as possible because the pass is good for the remainder of the year and then another whole year after that. A lot of folks focus on the rapid reward credit card bonus point offers to get them most of the way to earning a CP.

It gets better. You can use points to fly and you can still add your companion on. (If you could figure out how to get 2 CPes you would have the 4 of you covered).

Southwest is increasing the number of points required to earn the companion pass (currently 110k- starting on Jan it goes to 125k), but still a good deal if you can qualify.

Southwest goes to Hawaii from SJC and OAK, I believe. (Otherwise connecting flights). It’s all one class service.

Southwest would have your domestic and Hawaii flights pretty well covered, but not Asia - so it wouldn’t be a total answer.
