I value education but i hated when the kids got old enough to not want to miss school and get behind. They were in 2nd and 3rd grade and telling me they cannot go during school, perhaps it should have been the other way around, with the alleged adult saying they can't miss school, lol. It's just so much better in the off season and cheaper

Yes, DS had that discussion with me, too. LOL DS is now on his own--he lives a lot closer to WDW, so he is going to meet DH and I there for an extended weekend. DS still gets a kick out of going to WDW (and it's food and wine festival time!), so I guess we raised him right.

Schools have gotten stricter and stricter about missing school. In some districts, it's almost impossible to pull the kids out for anything other than medical reasons. One of the podcasts I listen to just did a show on this topic last week.

Before DD was born, DW and I used to go twice a year. One year, we actually got there 3 times in 13 months. Once DD was in school, we started going every November when our state has teacher conferences. That worked until 7th grade when we couldn't even take her out then, so we started going in August. Not our favorite time of course. Now that she's in college, we're back to having more freedom. DW and I are going in November. We're planning to go with DD in January on break. Then we found out there is an event next July that we want to attend so we'll go then, too. And probably again in December 2016 before or after the cruise we're taking out of Port Canaveral.

DW and I are going in November. We're planning to go with DD in January on break. Then we found out there is an event next July that we want to attend so we'll go then, too. And probably again in December 2016 before or after the cruise we're taking out of Port Canaveral.

You are certainly going to get your money's worth out of your annual passes. Are you going to be there before the food and wine festival ends in November? We did August the past 7 years (not this year). It is hot. There's no denying that.

As for the buses, we never use them, even when we have stayed on site. They're awful. The last time we stayed on site, we decided to take the bus somewhere one day and swore we would never do it again. It took 45 minutes to get where we were going. We could have driven (we had a car) in 15 minutes. I just don't see the appeal.

I totally agree. Although, we went one time in late Aug (mid week) just before Labor Day and were there when the park opened. It was almost deserted--There wasn't anyone in sight in our photos. Not surprising they considered this time "off season" and the parks closed real early.

But, it was just too hot for us. We try not to go between the months of March or April through Oct. This year will be the first time we have ever gone late Sept, so we'll see. The last few years we have gone over Columbus Day weekend, so this will be just a tad bit earlier.

We prefer to take a car, too. (If we can't walk, take a boat launch or monorail. )

Yes, we will be there during food and wine. I know this is heresy to many, but F&W just doesn't interest us. We've been there during it many times (we used to go during NJ teacher conference week in November). We don't see the appeal of standing in multiple lines to get expensive tiny plates of food that you need to eat standing up or leaning on a trashcan. We want to enjoy our meals together, sitting down at a table and relaxing for a bit before we continue our day in the park. Even though we usually do counter service, at least we all get our food together and all sit and eat it together.

This year will just be my wife and I so we might give it a little more of a chance, but I doubt it.

I can't say that I like the food kiosks when it really crowded (and hot!)--It is especially bad on the weekends. During the weekdays it is generally not as bad. There are a few selections that I really like. (I have a rule-- no more than 3 kiosks per day. ) I have a couple of faves such as the cheese soup in Canada (Yup--it's the same cheese soup served in Le Cellier, but I rarely can get a ressie and I think the little serving is just the right size.) And, I really like the Warm chocolate pudding with Kerrygold Irish Cream Liqueur Custard served at Ireland. They also have tall tables set up in some places (though, I agree not as relaxed as sitting inside at a real table).

But, what I like the most are the cooking demos--especially when they have celebrity chefs. Link to cooking demos I have been going to these cooking demos for several years and I have always really enjoyed what was served (even if it wasn't something that I normally would have picked). They have a wine pairing with the food. The demos used to be free, but now there is a charge for them.

I also enjoy the Eat to the Beat concerts.
