  • kindle question

I love borrowing books from the library. I have a tablet from T mobile free. I use the kindle app and it's easy to download free books. I"m also now addicted to the kindle unlimited library and have 3 months for $1 from Black Friday again. I'm debating actually buying a year. Anyway does anyone else kindles? Is it just me or are kindles going by the wayside since they have the kindle app you can put on any tablet? Do you use your kindle still?

I know we have a ton of readers on here. What do you prefer?

I don't read many books on my Kindle, but when I do I almost always use the Libby by Overdrive app to get library books.
I have a Kindle because I got it for free as a bank account opening bonus.

I think if you have a tablet, there's not a whole lot of reason to have a dedicated e-reader. However, there are advantages to the e-reader option. The main thing I hear people mention is size. Regular iPads are big compared to the Kindle. They are rather cumbersome to use just for reading.

I bought a Fire a couple of years ago but honestly bought it specifically for Netflix, not reading. I don't have a tablet and the price tag on the Fire is way lower than an iPad. I have read a couple of books on it and I like it for that. I just don't do a whole lot of reading in general.

I use my kindle when I remember too (being an IHG member gets me like two free books every now and then). I'm a fan of actual books since I don't have to worry about batteries going dead or something. However, in the small temporary accommodations I am currently residing in now, the kindle is perfect.

I hope not! I much prefer the e-readers. Is more like reading ink/paper and much gentler on the eyes. If my only option was a tablet, I'd stick to paper books, personally.

As a minimalist of sorts, I much prefer the e-readers (can put endless books on one small device). & I like the ability to customize the font size. So yeah, I much prefer the e-readers to any other option.

Both of these things are true of tablets, too.

Yes, I meant that I much prefer e-readers to paper books. I'd take a paper book over a tablet, but wouldn't be happy about it.

I have a paperwhite kindle. Bought on holiday sale last year. These things are quite good for what they are, and what amazes me is that their battery life is insane. I have found them particularly entertaining when we had power outages from the hurrcanes earlier this year.

That said though, I'd be lying if I said I had used them much beyond that. I think for those who enjoy reading, this is a no-brainer. For everyone else, I say it's easier to just stick with the phone or tablet that you have and use the Kindle app there instead.

As for whether they are going to the way-side, I think the market for these devices has definitely shrunk (to basically just Amazon now), but I don't think they are anywhere near extinct. At least not until OLED phone and tablet screens have become super affordable.

I’ve tried a dedicated e-reader/Kindle and couldn’t stand the image quality. I find the Fire and iPad much brighter and sharper and easier on my eyes. The Kindle was too muted.

i have heard that the Kindle is better in the sun but I have no need for that. If you are someone who spends a lot of time reading outdoors, that should be a consideration.

I don't get it about kindles either anymore. I tried using my DH's kindle but found it the same as a tablet.
