Actual Paper Version Of The Newspaper

I might be the only in the world still doing this but I've subscribed to the paper version of our local daily, county newspaper for 30 years. It also comes with an online version I'll read if I'm on vacation somewhere. Until recently it's been $89.00 for a 3 month period which I have a hard time excepting not to mention the paper has only gotten smaller over the years. Sure enough yesterday I opened my bill and it's gone up to $111.00 for 3 months of service. A whopping 24% increase!

Being pissed off I called and complained about the huge jump and the guy basically said they hoped to some day stop all paper versions and that this was one way of forcing everyone to switch over to the online version. I asked about the online version price and they only want $31.50 for 3 months vs $111.00 for paper.

It's not so much the money but the value I'm not getting for it. I still like reading the morning paper version with my coffee but I guess it's time to change. When I went out this morning to pickup the paper off my driveway I looked around to see who else received a paper version and sure enough, I'm the only one. Just a few years ago every house on the street had one each morning. I guess the paper delivery guy will be happy to get rid of me!

We just had this conversation. We only get the Sunday paper mainly for the coupons. But the price has steadily climbed and honestly, we don't use that many coupons. We probably don't use enough to justify the cost of the paper at this point.

We definitely aren't the only ones getting it as I hear it delivered most Saturday and Sunday mornings (half comes on Saturday, half on Sunday) and I see them in the driveways. I just don't think it's worth the cost anymore.

I love reading the paper in the morning while drinking my coffee!! I used to subscribe 7 days to our metropolis paper then cut back to the weekends only when the cost got too high.

Then I started subscribing to my towns weekly paper because they do a nice layout for high school sports and my kids all played. I stopped my subscription to the big metropolis weekend paper and but still keep the weekly town paper.

The town paper isn't published on Sundays :-(...but my paper lady still gives me "free" the weekend edition of the metro paper. I love her and make sure she gets a big tip at Christmas time, I suspect this is why she still gives us the weekend edition.

So we get our towns paper Mon-Sat and the metropolis paper Sat & Sun. I miss when we go on vacation and i don't have a paper to read in the morning, it just feels off. Oh, I think I paid 130 for the year for our town paper.
