  • are you a recovering clutter-hollic and procrastinator?

i was just thinking, i am on a new path, my house is almost clutter free, clean and orderly....i had to unclutter my thoughts in the process.
what to do and no time to do it. i had to learn to tackle one frustration at a time...i had to try to make a decision now. then move into the next area.
if you plan your moves then success will appear on the home front with more
control... if i have to move something more than twice, i find it a new home... trash, goodwill, garage sale box. i have been getting carried away
    cleaning and having fun..

Hi, my name is Jodi, and I am a (gasp) clutter-holic.

But I am getting better! My goal for this month was to donate 40 items. I am already over halfway there and it has been PAINLESS! I love the feeling of getting the house cleaned out. I like your idea about tossing it if you have to move it twice...

I'm working on the orderly thing! My room definitely gets out of order. But, the procrastination thing....I'm not making much progress. Lets just stay that I had a final today at 5:00 and didn't even start studying until 3:00. And, I didn't even pay attention in class! I definitely procrastinate.

I can't stand clutter! I grew up in a very messy, unorganzied home. My mother was kind of a slob and we never had people over because she was embarassed of the state of her home.

Now that I have my own house and live on my own, I am kind of the other way around. I can't stand for things to be out of place or cluttered. My poor husband.

              I am a major procrastinator!
And that is mainly where the clutter came in 'Ill find a spot for it later'

Well Thanks to all the insppiration from flylady, I am less of a procrastinator (I get the dauly stuff done first, then I procrastinate everything else!) And less clutter .

I discovered my room is growing thanks to less 'stuff'

And that a lot of furniture is 'stuff'...

But since I am moving soon Ive decided to get rid of a lot of it. I managed to throw away or donate and make 6 tubberware containers only 2!

I also come out of my room after my weekend cleaning with one giant garbage bag and one donation bag. Ive had two cleaning weekends so far.

I will fit everything in my condo!!

AS PrincessPerky mentioned, FlyLady has you do the 27-Fling Boogie specifically to help with decluttering. Her whole message is STOP procrastinating and get out of CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)
                  It works!

Well 27 was always to big for me, plus I can't count that high with a houseful of kids!

I just did 'some' and some turned out to make a BIG difference.

My library/office is the one room I am not proud of. I have filing stacked up everywhere, that I need to do. Maybe this will move me to get it straightened up!!

                        Yeah, I know!
What I liked best was the idea of speeding through (on a regular basis) and making quick decisions instead of "wellll let me think about it"

I too am on the way to being clutter free and a non procrastinator. I set goals and if I achieve them I pay myself. At the moment my goals are "Shine my sink" ie make sure there is no washing to be done before I go the bed and "laundry done" ie make sure that all laundry is done, folded and put away. I pay myself $4 if I achieve both goals and $0 if I don't. When I successfully do this for two weeks then I'll add another goal and pay myself $9.
So far it is working great. The house looks better. I am less stressed and when I go out for lunch or coffee I can relax because I know I have earnt it.

yes, my dh and i both are clutter bugs. we try to get things organized and it last a day or so, maybe more and then we just get overwhelmed. I like tgavins idea of paying oneself for tasks completed!

I used to be bad about procrastinating when it came to household chores I dreaded. Somewhere I ran across a suggestion to complete each one and note the actual time involved. What I discovered was that I was spending days avoiding a 20-minute task.

It's probably just a mind game, but there's a difference for me between having to vacuum the living room, dining room and hall and "spending half an hour vacuuming." Same chore, different perspective. Works for me.
