Has anyone rented a DVC timeshare from an owner? Does it save a lot of money? How does it work?

Also second question, is it stupid to stay at say Animal Kingdom and then go to universal or any other activities in orlando? And is it far to drive from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale?

I haven't but I know it's a popular way to go. It sure beats buying DVC. There are a few popular sites to do it. I know David's is a big one. https://www.dvcrequest.com/
There is also a DVC rental forum at disboards.com. https://www.disboards.com/forums/dvc-rent-trade.29/

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

We’ve rented someone’s points a few different times. It has saved several hundred dollars from the standard rate each time. However, it’s always been during non-peak season. Individuals are more likely to discount their rates when they aren’t as likely to sell them.

I love AKL and I don’t think it’s much different to stay there or any other Disney property and then travel to Universal or off site. We always rent a car, even if we stay on property, so that make the decision to travel off property less of an issue.

Orlando (Disney) to Fort Lauderdale is about 3 hours one way.
