How much do you spend on toll roads?

Not much, thankfully. Maybe once or twice a month I'll hit a toll that's about $5, for one of the bridges.

But, that's all changing very soon as there are various proposals to toll just about everything.

To answer Like2Plan's question when in Los Angeles using a rental car as long as you have 2 or more people in the rental car you should be fine to use the HOV lane. I believe motorcycles are allowed to use the HOV lane as well. I always drive solo so I never get to use the HOV lane.


On a side note I noticed that Las Vegas recently implemented a similar express lane on the I-15 freeway as you travel along the side of the strip. Las Vegas doesn't have a 2 person requirement but it seems that once you enter the express lane that you cannot get out of it until going a certain distance. Well technically you could get out but you'd be crossing the double solid lines which could incur a citation.

There is a common theme in regards to the HOV lanes in Los Angeles which surmmises to something like this, leave a large "carbon footprint and get punished," or leave a smaller "carbon footprint and get rewarded." Makes sense to me.
