Does anyone remember when Black Friday was actually a day when you could fing great deals? Now it's turned into a generic name for a sale. Home depot has been advertising their "Spring Black Friday" sale for over a month. Does this kind of marketing actually work?

It seems the creative staff at the various advertising firms who hold contracts with Home Depot and other retailers are less creative and imaginative than you would like. The decision makers at Home Depot, Best Buy and the like may prefer to use terms that are familiar to their customer base because that was what was revealed by the focus groups who rated the various advertising presentations.
It's important for consumers to plan purchases, list what is needed/wanted and track prices possibly comparing to Amazon if they can delay gratification for a few days for delivery... if they are price sensitive or value a 'good deal.'
