Does anyone remember when Black Friday was actually a day when you could fing great deals? Now it's turned into a generic name for a sale. Home depot has been advertising their "Spring Black Friday" sale for over a month. Does this kind of marketing actually work?

I agree that it seems they've changed what certain terms mean and have run out of creative names for sales. Even Black Friday isn't the same. I commented on that this past year when stores were saying, "Our Black Friday sale starts on Tuesday" or "Come for our Black Friday week of special deals" or stuff like that. Of course, I also hate when the Presidents' Day sale lasts into March.Originally posted by milkandcookies View PostDoes anyone remember when Black Friday was actually a day when you could fing great deals? It seems the creative staff at the various advertising firms who hold contracts with Home Depot and other retailers are less creative and imaginative than you would like. The decision makers at Home Depot, Best Buy and the like may prefer to use terms that are familiar to their customer base because that was what was revealed by the focus groups who rated the various advertising presentations.
It's important for consumers to plan purchases, list what is needed/wanted and track prices possibly comparing to Amazon if they can delay gratification for a few days for delivery... if they are price sensitive or value a 'good deal.'
