  • Corinthian college closes forever today

Heald, Everest, Wyotech, are among some of their campuses that closed today. I was curious about all the debt those students accumulated and do they still have to pay it back or do they get some sort of forgiveness and who pays in the end, is it you and me the tax payers.

Of course they still have to pay their debt. They don't owe it to the school. They owe it to the lender.

I'd be curious if current students received refunds on any tuition already paid for future classes, or at least a partial refund if a class was in session when the company closed its doors. That's would seem very sad (and also unethical) to hang on to students' money like that.

But yeah, like Steve said...borrowed money? They'll still owe it to the lender, especially for courses taken/completed in the past.
      History will judge the complicit.

I don't think it's the same situation, but a local college lost accreditation and went bankrupt - they were sued by the students and refunded tuition paid for classes that were now useless.

Kind of a unique situation since it was a Physician Assistant program so the classes taken were not useful at other programs (again, lost accreditation), but it does happen.
