  • What type of insurance do you have?

I've been a lurker for a few months now and I'm trying to get my budget in place. I'm curious what type of insurance everyone here has and what insurance I maybe don't need. Also, am I forgetting any type of insurance?

The only other insurance that I have is a yearly Million Dollar Umbrella policy I started to purchase after my kids starting driving while on my policy. A serious accident won't cover much with a standard insurance policy. I pay something like $350. a year for it.

As for life insurance, I plan to drop my term policy in the near future. I originally purchased it to pay off my mortgage in the event of my death but luckily it's almost paid off.

I have all you have plus a long term care policy on my Dh. Alzheimer's runs very strongly in his family so the probability is great that he may get it too.

I'm in a group plan at my work. I am pre-paying the premium in a 10 year policy. So far I've paid for 5 years and have another 5 to go. When the 10 years are up I'm done with the premiums and the benefit will be there if ever we should need it. I hope not

        We own:

        auto
        home
        health
        life
        umbrella

The first 3 are musts (assuming you own a car/home). The other 2 depend on your financial situation.
