Okay, I started working on Tuesday and I had my first ride and I was so excited I forgot to push start the trip on the app. My first driver got a $3 ride LOL. He reminded me to start the ride with my next passenger. So far so good, I like it because I can work for Uber when I am between clients. This morning 2 of my clients were sick and one is out of town, so I decided to work for Uber.
I decided I won't work at night and I won't do Saturday nights. I don't want someone vomiting in my car LOL.
The pay is okay but it is great for between clients because I can be on and off the clock anytime.
That is great. I can only speak from a rider's perspective. I've taken Uber twice and was pleased by how economical the price was, about half the cost of a taxi. And the ease of use with the interface on the app. And the fare was automatically taken from my PayPal account. No money or credit cards to deal with. If I was the rider I would have paid you in cash for your mistake but on the other hand I bet you won't make the same mistake in the future (lol).
Be very, very careful about doing this. Check your auto insurance. Your driving is probably rated as pleasure use or low distance commute. This changes the use to commercial. MUCH, MUCH more expensive. Probably cannot earn enough to justify.
I second the insurance coverage. If you get in an accident, your insurance can deny coverage if you were using your car as a business when you only have personal coverage.
Also, keep up on your local news. This past weekend in Philly where I live, Uber debuted and the city ran a sting and towed Uber drivers cars. They stated that Uber is illegal in the city. The fine the poor Uber driver had to pay to get his car back was $1,000!
I realize that the issue is mainly against traditional taxi providers not wanting to give up market share, but until all of the kinks are worked out, there are going to be issues like this.
