If not in US, where would you retire?

We have seriously considered retiring in the Philippines as weather is more moderate most of the year, English is the common language, costs are low and home care easily available. When we worked in Bangkok we considered it as a possible retirement venue but the combination of language and culture was too great a barrier.

Ideally we'd retire in Europe, but it would be too expensive and from what I understand, attaining citizenship can be difficult in most countries.
Canada would be nice, except for the climate.
I've read about the advantages (primarily cost of living) of several Central American countries, but I don't think I'm up for the major cultural shift compared to living in the US.seek knowledge, not answers

I've never really thought about it. I've spent my whole life in the US so I have no great draw to any other place. I also don't speak any other language.
So I guess I'd want somewhere warm where English is commonly spoken. Bermuda is beautiful but I think I'd get bored pretty quickly living somewhere that small. I like variety.Steve
* Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
* There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Hem, I've never thought about that before. I'd choose Jamaica, because it's the motherland of mento, ska and reggae and a plenty of other nice music. Moreover, English language, sunny weather all year round and living near the ocean are additional pluses)
