  • What's something that you currently WANT but don't NEED?

This sounds frivolous, but I had to talk myself off the ledge when I spotted THE perfect handbag while browsing online over the weekend. I am having DREAMS about this purse.

I am so tempted to whip out the credit card, but I've resolved to not spend a penny (or change my other savings contributions) until I have enough to buy it outright.

Anyhow, what kinds of things are you all tempted to or contemplating purchasing?

Do you mean something I want but can't actually afford? Or just something I want but haven't bought?

In your example with the handbag, it sounds like you can't afford it (meaning you don't have the cash to buy it and would have to put it on a credit card).

I can't think of anything that I want but can't afford. I can think of lots of things I'd like to have but have chosen not to spend the money on.

My husband would say a Recreational Vehicle (RV)...he wants it, but we can't afford it.

A pair of diamond earrings 5-8K for the pair I'm eyeing. Will just have to keep doing just that. Maybe one day but it seems like what's the point when there are so many other things worth saving for.

A tablet such as iPad Air or Galaxy.. I'm still holding out and I must be the last person on earth who doesn't have one.

A dream of about 25 years is to have some agricultural land on the Mississippi River. Not going to happen. Also want a summer home in Minnesota or Iowa, again on the river. That's not going to happen either.

How much time do you have?

I could fill a novel answering that question.

But top of the list right now I have my eye on an awesome pair of Carmina black wholecuts on the Simpson last (shoes, stupidly expensive shoes). Waiting to buy outright is definitely the right move. It keeps you from getting into spending trouble and ensures you really want the thing you're thinking bout.

I would like a new Kindle Fire. I sure don't need it since my old one is still doing its job. I would absolutely love to have a Garmin running watch. Again I don't need it since I use Runkeeper on my phone.

Right now we are working hard to pay off our mortgage so I could honestly afford both of these things, but I just have other priorities especially since they are just WANTS!

My sister (who is broke) was mentioning how they hire a service company to do their yard work. I think their entire lot size is about 6,000sqft. You could probably cut the lawn with scissors in less than 20 minutes. I maintain the better part of a professionally landscaped acre (without grass) all by myself. Some days I work so hard out there, I can barely walk the next day.

That spawned the discussion of having "people". Everyone we know has "people." People who take care of their yard, people who clean their house, people who walk their dogs, we even know a couple that has their meals sent to them, and all they have to do is warm them up.

So, my answer is "people". Want, but don't need. I'll take the grouchy and smug satisfaction of doing everything myself, along with the money saved, instead. But some days it would be really nice to have someone else do it for me.
