I am a Netflix advocate. They don't always have the latest and the greatest TV and movies because, believe it or not, they are trying to provide the best customer experience possible.
Hulu, on the other hand, is owned by the media companies directly (though I do not recall exactly who). There was a difference in opinion between the two entities, where the media companies wanted more revenue with ads and more pay per stream (which would also ruin viewing experience as well as "double dip"), but Netflix refused. As a consequence, the media companies bought Hulu, a streaming competitor and provided it with the latest and greatest programming they have available there, all the while refusing to provide Netflix the same.
In other words, this is why you see commercials in Hulu, but not in Netflix. This is also why, in order to stay competitive, Netflix decided on the tremendous gamble of creating their own original content such as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.
And yet, despite their own success, Netflix has not succumbed to the "old corporate greed" as it were. They are still focused on providing the best TV viewing experience possible, and that's why I will continue to support them while boycotting Hulu. They may even go as far as providing peer2peer streaming in future.
I also have Amazon Prime, primarily for their curbing their shipping fees. I would watch their Instant video, but the streaming is not very reliable, and even when it is, there isn't much programming that I am interested on there. This may change once they add HBO's programming though. We'll see.
