  • How old is your car?

Just curious about what everyone is driving around in these days.

    1. How old is your car?
    2. How many miles on it?
    3. Is it paid off?
    4. How much longer do you think it will last?

    1. 14 yo Toyota Celica
    2. 154k miles
    3. Yes
    4. It's a toyota, maybe it will never die..

I have never changed the spark plugs/timing chain/done a tune up. Brake/tires/oil..that's about it and it's still ticking.

Do have my eyes on the new lexus IS 350 though

      1. How old is your car? about 6 years
      2. How many miles on it? 83K
      3. Is it paid off? No but it will be by the end of the year
      4. How much longer do you think it will last? Depends on how much I have to drive it. I'm hoping at least 2-3 years but possibly more like one.

Hoping that I'll be able to get the next car for cash and hoping its a decent car that last a while.

        1. 13 years
        2. 66k miles
        3. Yes
        4. Probably another 5-7 years

Car has a KBB value of I think $3800, but to me, it is worth far more. I'll probably upgrade the sound though.

          1. How old is your car? I have a 2006 Toyota Camry.
          2. How many miles on it? I think about 45,000. I bought it in July 2012 with 26,000.
          3. Is it paid off? Yes.
          4. How much longer do you think it will last? I'd like to get 150,000 miles out of it. At 12,000/year, that would be about 8 years. In reality, it will probably be less because once our daughter goes off t college, I'll probably do a lot more driving as my wife and I will be able to do more things, travel more, etc.

          * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
          * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
          * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

            1. How old is your car? We have a 13yo and a 9yo vehicle
            2. How many miles on it? 155k & 110k
            3. Is it paid off? Paid for in cash; both bought "one year new"
            4. How much longer do you think it will last? We keep our cars 200k miles; 20 years. Some of this is our last cars were 20 years older (& we ran them into the ground). Cars these days should easily last much longer. But, I see the benefit in upgrading technology. I may have driven some old cars, but never had an older car than 20 years. So that is why I have that cutoff in my mind. Overall, I don't particularly want to buy a car again before 2020.

                1. 19 years and 5 years
                2. 54k and 59k
                3. Yes to both
                4. 3 years and 10 years

my old car is spotless and runs perfectly so the only reason we will replace it would be in the event of a crash or once we start having kids and want a little more room.

                        1. 9.5 years. It's a 2005 Jeep Liberty but I bought it new in December 2004.
                        2. 191,000
                        3. Yes, for many years now.
                        4. I don't want to say, every time I brag on it I end up with a major repair. Based on past experience with this car, I'm not optimistic but I am committed to at least another year.

Why so old and why last so long? Because I just finished rebuilding the motor full, including sleeves in the block, posted and polished head and block, brand new low compression pistons, fully built head and block, ARP head studs and bolts.
