  • Landlords - Insure rental property without a primary residence?

We currently own two houses. There is a clause in our rental property's insurance that says they will only insure the property as long as our primary residence insurance is with them as well. We are planning to sell our primary home and will not be buying a new home for at least a year, if not longer. What does that mean for my rental property coverage? Are there companies that insure rentals without a primary residence clause? I've called most of the major ones and they've indicated they won't do it.

I suggest you get in touch with an insurance broker rather than agency specific agent, who bids out contracts to the really big re-insurers. They can likely best answer.

I'm a landlord, and there are all kinds of companies out there that will do it.....just need to call around or talk to other landlords in the area and see who they use.
