  • What is the Bible of Finance?

As the title implies, what could you recommend as a "essential material" or very helpful reading material that outlines just about everything finance? As much as I love asking for advice and listening to the Dave Ramsey or Suze Orman types.. I would love to read, and research finance and develop my OWN ways and theories for investing, saving etc.. What are some really good reads to do this?

p.s. Its sort of like Bible. Instead of listening to multiple preachers, one would understand a LOT more by just reading the book (bible) they are preach from for themselves. So I am trying to find some of the top financial books to truly understand this stuff inside and out. I know some of you have some good reads that you can recommend. Thanks so much!

It's been a couple of years since I read it, but I thought "Thou Shall Prosper" by Daniel Lapin was a really good read. I haven't read any other financial books past that one.

Honestly I think I get more good for forums like this than anything else. I will form an initial opinion on a topic, then go out and search for other peoples thoughts on it and see how far off base I am.

Benjamin Graham is often identified as the 1st 'Value Investor' author, lecturer, for investors last century. [1934[] Technical analysis, and 1949? 3 Principles of Investment. I think I read Warren Buffet credited Graham as his investment guru.

oops, misread your question. Favourite books are Automatic Millionaire, Dave Bach, Clash of Culture, John Bogle

The books that had the biggest impact on me when I got serious about personal finance (over 15 years ago, now) were "The Millionaire Next Door" and "Your Money or Your Life". "The Wealthy Barber" is another

There's only so many ways to repeat the advise of live within your means, pay yourself first, stay out of debt, save for retirement, etc. Those books will get you thinking about the "whys", as it applies to your life & goals.

I think you'd need to differentiate between personal finance and investing. I don't know if there's one book that is a great reference for both areas.

One book isn't going to do it. You will need to read several, since there are countless books that specialize in different areas of finances and investing. Some good places to start might be the "Rich Dad Poor Dad" series or one of the "For Dummies" books.
