I've never been IN a dollar store. We've got several, even in the little town I live in. I'm just not a shopper by nature.

WE have several dollar stores in my little town to, one has lots of candles for $1 if you are into candles. I bought some unbreakable glasses for drinks out on the deck.

the dollar tree has first rate scrapbooking supplies so if that is one of your hobbies you will find some good buys, oh and nice little gift bags you know for weddings, birthdays etc..

Oh man, they are great for:

little stocking stuffers
shampoo (huge bottle for a buck!! - doubles as liquid hand soap)
bubble bath (huge bottle and it also doubles as liquid hand soap)
soaps and bodywash
travel toothbrushes and toothpaste (which is great since I have one in braces)
cheap hair pretties (pony tail holders, barrettes, clips, etc)
gift bags and wrapping paper
greeting cards
sunglasses (don't mind the kids losing/ruining ones that cost a dollar)
eyeglass cases (so, in theory, they won't lose those dollar store sunglasses)

liquid soap, toilet tissue, kleenex, cleaning supplies, liquid detergent, palmolive, simple green, bean soup, baggies, trash bags, batteries, tea, aleve, bandaid, bubblegum, spices, dry beans.

My brother-in-law used to let their kids each get mugs from different touristy places they went. sure cut down on whining, and who gets very excited if a $1 mug breaks?

I got my eyeglasses from the dollar store, and I have had them about 5 years.
