I usually don't carry large amount of money. It makes me uncomfortable and tends to spend beyond my budget. I usually have $1-$5 in my wallet. Sometimes all I keep in my wallet is fare.

I would say that is average for me, maybe a bit high.

I tend to spend less when I use cash than if I charge it. I remember hearing that the average McDonalds transaction went from $4.50 to $7.00 when they started taking credit rather than just cash and that has stuck in my mind ever since.
