    Rough Income estimates

$74,000 from full time job, emergency management position for the public sector.

    About $10-12,000 from small business.

I also work part time as a consultant/technical editor for emergency management projects. That income varies and only goes into savings. Last year was a slow year and it was about $15,000.

This year is probably about the same or a little less as I am going for a professional certification and I need "volunteer" hours on my application for the certification and the professional examination.

So, excluding the consulting money, $84-86,000.

I'm 25 and work as a Gov't Contractor making $55k + roughly $2k 401k match (got a $10k raise in May) and also work a second job in a restaurant making about $30k. Lastly I have a hobby that brings in about $6k.

So $93k pre-tax with about 15% going to retirement.

Goal is obviously to get that income down to 1 job so I'm not working 75 hours a week...

Los Angeles is one of the most expensive places to live, and you are also contending with 10% state income tax on top of federal taxes, so a good chunk of your paycheck is going to living expenses (if you pay for your own cost of living) and taxes.

It was the year 2000, but that kind of seemed to be the standard for most my friends in varying professional capacities. (& lord knows we all make a heck of a lot more money with more experience). I agree with ua_guy.
        Thank you.

I started looking for another job few days ago since my current company hasn't given me a raise since. It's been 1 year and a half. Good thing is they said my perforamnce evaluation is already submitted and they might raise me next week. On the other hand, I just got an offer from another company for $60k. I'm waiting for their formal letter email and I think I'm going to accept it since I don't think my current employer will raise me to $60k.

Worked in College as a Business Manager getting about $850 a month part time. Graduated and went to work in the public sector as a management analyst making $61k. Got a raise to 65k after a year or so as I inherited other duties and had a good review. Left after about 3 years and went to work in the private sector as a Project Manager. I currently make 96k per year, no bonus, no retirement match, but most benefits fully paid for. I net an extra 7k a year or so from mileage reimbursement after gas, but really that should be going to replacing the car since I put 550 miles per week on it just for work.

Looking at potentially taking a pay cut down to 85-90k to work from home, as I drive about 2.5 hours per day now.

Also looking at other opportunities with a bigger company that would involve some driving, but move up to 104k per year. It would be in the same line of work.

I've been looking to switch over to sales and was just wondering... What does it take to get into a medical sales job that pays so much? Have to be a former doctor?

I've been looking into financial sales (hedge fund sales etc) and I'm just not sure I'd be good at it. Any general advice would be greatly appreciated.

About $16,000. I clean industrial / medical facilities at night when no one around. Light job, but the pay isn't exactly spectacular.

You all seem to have high incomes, make it look so easy.
