I wear ~$180 jeans. The thing is that I don't buy designer jeans, but actual real quality jeans. You can buy raw denim that will easily last 5+ years. When you purchase jeans with a mentality that they will last a long time and be in great shape as you break them in, it isn't that dumb to invest in a pair of expensive quality jeans. I've purchased 2 pairs of jeans in the past couple years and don't plan on buying new ones in the next 3ish+ years. 99% of 150-200+ jeans are 100% not worth it and I laugh at people who buy designer jeans just because of the brand name. Those are completely overpriced and ridiculous.

The reason pay more is because it is more expensive, and has a fancy name. There is no improvement in quality beyond a $40-50 pair. Hell I've seen $30 jeans that had superior stitching and material quality to the touch than some $200 pairs. It's silly. People pay more to be able to say they got "the best" when reality they just paid more to pay more.

I hate shopping for clothes anyhow. I have 2 pairs of jeans, 5 shirts, one pair of shoes. Done.

LOL. I'm not quite sure where I'd go if I wanted to spend that much. Nordstrom's I guess.

I've always worn Levi's. It just so happens that I need to buy a couple pair right now.

A couple weeks ago I was shopping online and the best price I could find for 550s was $40. I had them in my shopping cart and was about to click "buy" when I stopped myself. I couldn't spend $80 on 2 pair of jeans without taking a look at Goodwill first (which I still haven't done).

A few months ago I bought 2 dress shirts and a really nice pair of dress pants from Goodwill for under $10. They were like new.

Note - I don't care about fashion at all, and I can dress casually for work.

              Exactly!

What I find interesting (in my experience at least) is that those that I know that are higher earners ($250K-800K per year) mostly don't buy jeans like this. The lower earners that I am friends with (50K and under) are more likely to buy the fancier clothes trying to impress people.
I will say that the executives I know wear very nice suits, but that is part of the cost of doing business IMO, not so much luxury items IMO.

My $40 jeans last 2-3 years. No way I'd spend 5 times that on a single pair. The only thing I do spend big bucks on is my work shoes because I'm on my feet for 12 hours a day and there is a marked difference in comfort and durability.

I think it goes back to "The Millionaire Next Door." Millionaires got that way by living within their means and not spending money wastefully or unnecessarily.

Dave Ramsey if fond of saying that if you want to be rich, do rich people things. If you want to be poor, do poor people things. Same concept.

This! I will spend whatever is necessary for comfortable shoes for DD & myself. By spending upfront on good shoes we save money on our physical therapy bills. The $1.00 flip-flops are the worst thing for your body! My teen hasn't worn them in years. Instead we pay $50-$100 for good sandals.

In the grand scheme of things for really rich people $200 is nothing. I think personally it's a lot and I haven't spent that much but I know many people who drop that for a dress to wear to one occasion!
