    Hello,

Will speeding tickets make my friends insurance go up?

    Thankyou,
    Sean,

Maybe. It varies by location, his insurance provider, how severe the offense was, and if this is his first offense or if he already has offenses on his record.

It's been awhile but one or 2 on record may be OK, but thats depending on location and insurance provider as others said before. Depending on the moving violation I'd still recommend talking to a hearing officer or go to court to see if you can go on probation for a year so its not on record. Then again, thats even if it's offered in your county and will depend on their driving history.

In MN i believe a moving violation stays on your driving record for 5 years, while most insurances check for within 3 to 5 years history. So you may have different options and/or laws.

As stated, it depends. Some states/counties allow you to take a driving safety course (if it's your first & only ticket within a certain number of years) that will prevent any points from showing up on your driver's license. If that is an option for your friend, strongly recommend that he/she take advantage.

Not really sure about the reasoning here.... Speaking realistically, everybody speeds to varying extents...or at least a solid 75% (or more) of drivers do. It's just a matter of if you actually get caught, and by how much above the speed limit you're going. I don't see how a friend getting a speeding ticket merits cutting ties.... but, as a tangent, I'll let this lie....

Depends on the insurer, but it's more likely to increase the insurance rather than decrease it. Was that speeding really worth it?..
