    Re: anyone else quitting smoking?

It is real all right, and it is a drug, some people actually find it easy to quit, but then some people don't get any realiefe from tylenol, drugs do not all effect everyone the same.
I have to say though on the messages, I started after the packs carried them, and it didn't stop me, after all those lost years were at the end of my life! Course now I have kids, I have a really good reason to be nice and healthy for a long time, I want to see my great grandkids someday! (and I don't want to be hacking up a lung when I could be talking to them!)

You can quit, and you will

I quit in January. I fell off the wagon a few times in February (when I was out with friends). I'm really proud of myself, though. I've started a new job delivering newspapers in the morning, so I need to be able to breathe to do my hikes around the neighborhood. I feel like a completely new person, and it's only been a month since I gave up the death sticks. Keep at it!

Good for you lemony!!! That is great. I would have a few puffs every few months after I had quit for a while when my husband was still smoking. It tasted nasty!

I quit 4 years ago cold turkey. It was tough but I am so glad I did it.

You took up smoking on the advice of your doctor? Is this person still your doctor?

I just entered my 3rd year smoke free. I quit cold turkey. I have to admit that once I made up my mind, it wasn't that difficult to quit. I'm not saying it's easy, but it can be done. I smoked off & on while in college and started smoking pretty regularly when I was about 23. I smoked a pack of Marlboro Reds on a normal day and sometimes more. I wish I would have quit much sooner than I did. BTW, I smoked for about 13 years.

Yes, how is it going? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I am having a tough time with my cigarette addiction. I enjoy smoking and my cigarettes have been with me for many years. When I am smoke-free I almost feel like I've lost my best friend. When I am smoke-free I also noticed that other smokers stink!

Anyhow, the thread originally started out talking about the rash from Equate brand patches. The 21 mg patches of any brand give me problems because it is too much nicotine. Try the 14 mg and see if you don't find some relief. Equate's give me a rash too but only for a day or two until my body accepts them. I like the clear patches but they do cost more. I put the patch on my upper back where I can't see the rash and apply a first aid cream when I take it off. Be certain to rotate the area of skin you apply the patch to.

And Good Luck to us both! (I have been trying to quit for about 14 months now.)

I don't smoke but I know that a lot of people will be in the UK since a No Smoking ban in all public places starts on 26th March.

my grandmother quit smoking at the age of 81 after smoking since she was about 13 or so. We have never been so proud of her as the day she decided to quit. Until her death 5 years ago we celebrated the day she quit just like any other anniversary or birthdya.

i salute those of you who are trying to quit. You can do it!

It is one pack, not the end of the road!

Though if I smoked when witchy I think I would be at 5 or 6 packs a day sometimes!

How about a new stress reliever, a pedicure, or a bubble bath (preferably sans kids!) Or a nice tub of ice cream, or a long walk (again sans kids!)

Now all you have to do is talk your SO into the massage! (for bringing something home for you point him to a suggestion of a rose, or poem, or new 'trinket' or handmade card by the kids, pointing out how wonderful you are of course!)
