    Re: anyone else quitting smoking?

I have been smoke free for three years. It was hard! I had tried numerous times before and each time come back smoking more than ever. The last time (final time) I had used Commit lozenges (sp) and they realy helped. I could not have done it wothout them. They gave the slightest taste of a cigarette in my mouth that helped and in between them I ate tons of sugarfree hard candy and sucked on ice. I used the commit a lot longer then what the pkg recomended but it eventualy happened... I quit! God luck, you can do it.

I quit cold turkey, but I did want something to put in my mouth, like candy. I gained weight but I am healthier 10 pounds heavier without 40 cigarettes a day. Plus, i saved a lot of money, I put it in a box and then in my mutual fund when I got enough.

I used to reach for cigarettes that weren't there for at least a couple of months after quitting. I didn't really gain any weight, but I try to exercise fairly regularly. It does get easier. Quitting is probably the best thing I've ever done for myself. Smoking would be the worst.

it is very hard, phantom vices.lol good wording i think. for some harder then for others. some may even think of it as an excuse, but til u really been there, u dont know. I think im lucky, i know its a problem and im really trying, theres trial and error, my brothers vice is booze and he dont care. but with this vice, i understand better how hard it is to give something up. Ill eventually win this fight of mine, but i know what its like to fall down. Just gotta get back up. I keep getting back up.lol.

bendy straws (cut to size). That's what they gave my FIL at his smoking cessation program. He said it worked fairly well, it was the same size and shape as a cigarette and you could put it in your mouth. But the bendy section enabled you to "break" the cigarette regularly.

Also, take up crocheting or knitting. Or jewelry making. Cross-stitch, quilting. Any kind of art that will get your hands moving and focus your mind.

                Good Luck!!!

I'm having trouble too. I love my family, but AGH...told DH I REALLY needed JUST ONE, but I didn't want a carton. No way I quit when I have a big supply. So he bought one pack, which was fine, until it turned out it was a carton. I think calming down has trumped quitting smoking - for HIS wellbeing!

Don't forget premature aging, poor health, early death etc. etc.

Sorry. That probably wasn't nice, but calming down doesn't seem as important in light of those "benefits".

A walk with a bendy straw, walk to clear the head, a bendy straw to fill the hand. I bet a yogite would use the straw for some controled breathing, like a cigg but no smoke. Prolly looks silly, but I bet it would work.

Okay- I have just completed Day 15 smoke-free. I quit cold-turkey, but only after waking up from surgery feeling lousy. The breathing tube made me cough up blood. Then my oxygen level was low. I honestly think I got too scared to continue smoking. I will keep y'all updated......
