Ridiculous waste of money

Like others, I'll go with my cable and cell phone bills. When we move, my goal is to cut our expenses with these two items in half. It's crazy how expensive the big carriers charge for phone service with an iPhone... I even have a 27% corporate discount but it still drives me crazy!

I'd have to disagree, at least about the cell phone. I get a tremendous amount of enjoyment and utility out of my iPhone. It only costs $15/month extra to have it which I find to be money very well spent.

What's your total bill? I pay $160 a month for two iPhones with my 27% corporate discount (I think AT&T is $30/month for iphone data plans). I want to scheme a plan with Google Voice to get a low cost plan by working mostly on wifi... still hatching the plan though

Our total bill is $188. That's for 5 phones on a family talk plan. Three iPhones and two non-smart phones. Two of the iPhones have the $15 data plan. My phone is still grandfathered into the unlimited data plan which is $30 but is no longer offered. We also have unlimited texting for all 5 phones. We also get a corporate discount. I'm not sure how much that saves us.

It definitely helps with the family plans because the cost per phone goes way down... my ideal scenario would be to live/work in an area with wimax and run my entire phone service through a data plan. Of course you would need a phone plan for emergencies, but I think Google is going to make this possible for us pretty soon...

True. One thing a lot of people don't realize is that to use the family plan, you don't all have to live in the same household. We have 5 people on our plan from 3 different households in 2 states. People could save a lot by teaming up with parents or kids or siblings to all get on the same plan. We have me, my wife, our daughter, my mother, and my cousin on our plan.

Great point, and that's what we do! My wife and I are actually still on family plans with our families as it's far cheaper than to get on one family plan together (not only for us, but it would be more cost per person for each of our families too!).
