I think the same thing. I see so many people with their nails done that just look really, really awful. I can't believe they spent money to do that to themselves. False eyelashes are the same way. They always look fake because nobody has lashes that long.

I would add tattoss to the list. Why spend money to deface your body? Oh, and tanning salons. I know people who go every week and spend a fortune to do so. Why? So you can look ridiculous and give yourself cancer? I just don't get it.

I only just recently learned about French manicures. I had always wondered why my natural nails didn't look as nice as other women's. Felt like an idiot when I figured it out. So I learned how to paint on my own French manicure at home (without fake nails glued on...don't like those), and I love the look. I don't think it looks trashy, just subtle and pretty.

But the giant, squared off, weirdly colored fake nails that I see on some women do not look good to me.

Don't like tattoos, though my husband has a couple.

Comfy clothes, diapers, food, and a few toys and the kid has everything he needs.
Yeah, they are definitely more for the parents (and their family or friends) than for the infant.

Also...what about dog/pet birthday parties? We certainly enjoy getting a gift or two for birthdays and Christmas for our pets, but a party just seems like a waste!

Another thing that seems like a waste is a land phone line. If you have a cell phone, then only in limited situations does it make sense to have a landline anymore.

I keep debating this one. We have a land line. We've had the same number for 18+ years. Everyone knows they can call that number and reach any or all of us. If we cancel that service, people then have to track 3 numbers depending on which one of us they most want to talk to. That also means giving out my cell number to everyone, not something I'm in the habit of doing. My close friends and familiy have my cell number. Everyone else gets the house phone number. I don't want to be getting calls during the work day on my cell that could have just been answering machine messages at home.

The other problem is that we don't have unlimited calling on our cell phones. We are on a family plan with 850 shared minutes between 5 of us. If we started using our cells as our only phones, those minutes wouldn't be sufficient, meaning we'd have to upgrade our plan and spend more money anyway.

Seems simpler all around to just keep the land line.

The solution would be to have your landline phone number transferred (ported) over to a new VOIP phone. The money savings would be incredible and you would keep your same phone number. I say fire your phone company and go with a VOIP phone (I did it). In addition, they have apps where you could also link that landline phone number to your cell phone and make unlimited calls (incoming/outgoing) for free on your cell phone using that landline phone number. I had my landline for 10+ years and was hesitant to switch and realized the cost savings immediately and wished I had done it sooner.

I keep my land line because I prefer to talk on a real phone. I talk to my sister several times a week, often for an hour at a time. I find my cell phone to not be that comfortable and the sound is not as clear. I am also slightly concerned about the effects of long term cell phone use on the brain.

I also do not have confidence in my cell phone service. If the kids or I need to call 911, I don't want any problems. I have not had a problem with my landline for the last 30+ years. My cell service with Sprint was atrocious and I switched, but am still not confident in it.

I would love to get rid of the landline bill. Then I could afford a manicure

I've looked into that, too. I may decide to go that route.

See above. VOIP would solve that problem. The other options for those long calls (and radiation risks) are either using headphones or speaker phone. I hardly ever talk on my cell phone without using the speaker phone. It is so much easier to just set the phone on the desk or table and have my hands free while I talk.

                  Fast Food is Expensive

I don't eat fast food often, and for a reason, too. To even get remotely full, it's at least $5. Do you know how many Ramen Noodle packs $5 can buy? A lot.

Or, if Ramen isn't your thing, there's always beans and ham or spaghetti.

                    Wasted dollars

Manicures and pedicures. Never had one in my life.
                    High-priced wines.
Any motor vehicle over $30K. I just don't think you're getting your money's worth over a certain level.

Also elaborate funerals, mahogany caskets and the whole nine yards. Now the funeral industry is trying to get a new trend started, letting people more highly personalize their funeral to reflect what their lifestyle interests were like.

When I die, the only financial burden I would ever pass on is to be cremated. Even if I was a billionaire, I don't want to waste money and space decomposing in a fancy casket.

You think that's bad...you can actually RENT caskets now - which is actually a good idea - but the price is something RIDICULOUS like 50% of the cost of buying!

So true. It boggles my mind that anyone thinks it is a good idea to spend $10,000 or more on a box that will be buried in the ground never to be seen again. I've made it very clear to my wife that when I die, she gets an Orthodox Jewish pine casket (we are not Orthodox but I respect that belief). Those sell for about $900 currently (and I think that's ridiculous but that's about as cheap as they come).

I'm in the same boat. I've been saying for years that I'm going to convert my landline and number over to a cheaper VOIP system but haven't. I'm pretty sure once I do I'll kick myself for not doing it sooner.

As far as your moblie plan, you must have an older plan since you don't have unlimited calling. Have you checked the rates compared to the newer plans? It's something like $175 for 1GB of data, 3 smartphones and unlimited talk and text on AT&T and $170 for the same on Verizon. I'm sure there's better deals out there with other carriers and sometimes those older plans that they don't offer anymore are better if you don't really need the unlimited stuff. Just wondering if you've compared yours to the newer price plans where all they care about is your data usage.
