How many of us are 100% debt free?

We owe only one more payment on a $4,000.00 air conditioner totaling $100.00.

And we do owe on our mortgage which is $60,000.00

Nothing but the mortgage but we have old paid off cards.

The feeling is wonderful.

We had at one point been up to $30,000.00 in credit card debt and it took years to get out of that!

I am debt free! But my wife is not...so basically, I'm not either. Just has about 40k left on her student loan. Ugh, gradschool.

Most of us are really having our debt because of the crisis that we are experiencing nowadays. It is one of the biggest problem that almost all of us encountered on how to pay our debt.

Really...how valuable is this question on this forum - which will attract individuals preoccupied with finances more so than your average person?
Many will say they are debt-free here. Being debt-free is their hobby after all.

I am not nit-picking because as we are debt free too right now (about to get a mortgage though)...but still. What difference does it make?

What is more relevant is what % of the US population is debt free...not how many of "us" are debt-free here.

Actually, I think there is a lot of value mentioning it here. Those who come here are often struggling with debt and trying to save, so hearing from those who have "made it" and being able to have questions answered can be very motivating.

I am 100% debt free. No mortgage.

BUT I don't own a home, so don't throw a party for me. I am saving more than average for retirement because I prefer renting and I know my housing costs will increase as I age.

Simply because I was curious when I asked. I personally came here for investing info because I had to much money sitting in safe places making diddly. . I didn't think the question had to have great value. Simple curiosity. I am debt free and bought our last property with cash so obviously debt free plays into my plan. Being debt free is NOT my hobby. Gaining wealth and having my spouse retire early , while having a nice life for my family is my hobby. They can go together but to me are really different animals. One can be debt free and have no real assets or have millions in assets and some debt.

Being debt free probably doesn't make much of a difference for most people. Maybe they don't care, or figure their situation is considered normal. But those who find themselves burdened by servicing debt for years (some have 6 figures of student debt and tens of thousands of credit card and car loans) may find budgetary and mental relief being free of at least those debts.

I've been there with car loans, heloc, and credit card debt...not nearly as bad as some, but the mental relief that comes from having all those gone is extraordinary for us. I can only imagine the benefit would be greater for those with more debt.

I agree with you 100%. It is mental relief for us also. For us it relieves some of the worry of what if???

Last year I adopted 2 more children and moved into a much larger home for our family of 6. I am happily in debt for $258,000!

Good job to everyone living the debt free lifestyle! Part of me would like to join you all and downsize to a modest house and live debt free now, but then I think of my 4 kids under 12 and say, why in the heck would I want to do that. lol

We recieved these siblings at 3 weeks and 13 months of age after being taken away from their parents for neglect. After 26 months of fostering them and dealing with "the system" and parents that just couldnt care for themselves let alone children, I am thankful beyond words that they are part of my family.

Retirement will come later, the house, vehicles, and monthly expenses got bigger, but the joy has grown the most.
