    i'd also always get it inspected (by a dealership of that make). that would be another trip.

    ditto on asking plenty of questions. however, people lie (even if you specifically asked a question and let them know that you would inspect and are just trying to save everybody's time by asking beforehand).

    long distance is a hassle. it's gotta be worth it.

      I don't know too much about cars and wouldn't be comfortable buying it without a mechanic looking it over. I would probably have to drive out twice to determine if it's worth looking at.

      I looked at mazda5 at the dealerships and test drove a couple. The closest private party is 150 miles. I will not drive far for probably other cars.

        Sounds like you should set a price point and just buy any car that falls within it. That way you can concentrate your efforts in your local area.
