  • Can someone explain the statute of limitations

I'm in Iowa. How long does a company have to bill me for services before I'm no longer responsible for payment?

To be specific, can a hospital really send me a bill for the birth of my daughter 3 years after she was born? I don't even have the same insurance anymore so I'm not sure whether its an issue to take up with the hospital or the insurance company. I'm sure it will be a giant runaround regardless

The hospital may be trying to balance bill you, which is illegal. That is an issue for the insurance provider to deal with. Since you have different insurance now, it may be tricky to get your original provider to deal with it.

I technically have the same provider... it's still UHC, but its now carried by me rather than my DH and it's a completely different plan. I don't even remember what our coverage was back then

I went through an issue with a hospital a few years ago. They were trying to bill me for an ER visit that should have been covered. Ultimately, my HR department at my employer got involved and resolved the issue.
