Funny ways to save money

What are the funniest ways you save money? I was listening to the radio this morning and this one one guy started taking walks with his dog in the morning and he said he never needed to buy a cup of coffee again to wake himself up in the mornings saving him a ton of money. Because he is tall, on his walks he would inevitably run into spider webs and the feeling of doing this will automatically wake you up. Being tall myself, I could totally relate -- especially when I lived in Japan and I would run into spider webs all the time. It definitely would wake you up in the morning.

So, any other funny ways people save money that you know about?

I had a friend who only wanted to marry a man who can fix things.She said it will save thousands of dollars each year. Funny thing is she's still single.

I have heard of people saving little bitty scraps of soap, and using them in an old sock to save money on a body wash/sponge (sounds a bit odd to me). I also read once someone would use a match as their deodorant (would not recommend that for obvious safety reasons!!!).

Don't know if this qualifies as funny, but: in our household, when bananas get overripe and a little too brown and mushy - they are combined with ice cubes, a little milk, and some cinnamon in a blender, and become very delicious (and healthy) banana smoothies.

When I was younger my mother had read somewhere that the sound of insects would wake you up in an instant. So one morning she walked into my room and woke me up by buzzing in my ear. Sure enough, I woke up alert only to look over and see a grown woman with her elbows down and fingers out to the sides, fluttering them about like a dork. Jazz hands!

But I digress. I save on bee keeping costs by not keeping any bees.

My mum used to hang the tea bags out to dry and re-use them. Not many people came round for tea!

Forget the coin idea- Canadian and US coins are not generally inter changeable in slots. May look the same but most slots are able to know the difference.

In addition to being possibly illegal and the fact that vending machines can indeed tell the difference between US and Canadian quarters, no one has mentioned that it will/could actually cost you MORE money.

In case you haven't noticed, the US/Canadian exchange rate isn't what it used to be. I was recently in Canada and $100 Canadian cost me $103 US.

A dinner date gone bad - or good?

Here is a funny way a friend of mine saved money. While on a date with a young lady, a buddy of mine "mysteriously" lost his wallet and could not pay for his date's dinner. Later that weekend, my friend bragged about saving $100.00. Needless to say, his date never called him again. LOL

If he would treat her like that, it was probably worth the $100 to never see him again.


I remember that my family would reuse empty Cool Whip bowls as tupperware. Sometimes you'd open the fridge and see like 5 or 6 cool whip bowls everywhere. How many ice cream sundaes do these people eat??

I didn't intend to, but I did marry someone who can fix things....he can fix cars and do all sorts of woodworking and remodeling jobs.

The one thing he can't do is fix computer issues. But, he has still saved us thousands.

My dads in the early days use to give missed calls from phone booths and expect call back from them. It was really funny to see the way he would try to explain my mom, what he was doing.
