How many movies would you say you guys watch in a month?

I'm def a RedBox guy. But I've considered going to get a NetFlix subscription since we got a free BlueRay player when my roommate bought his new TV. Apparantly you can stream through the player.

Not sure if I'd watch enough to make it worth it though. I prob watch 4 or 5 a month. At redbox that's like 5-10 bucks.

I'd say Netflix is as much about convenience and accessibility as it is about price. Many months, honestly, we probably don't get our money's worth. The selling point, though, is that it is always there and always ready. Since it is internet-based, I can also watch from my office or in a hotel room when we travel in addition to watching at home. Plus, unlike Redbox, we can start a movie one day and finish it a few days later or longer. My wife and I started a movie several weeks ago when my daughter was out for the evening and we finished it about 3 weeks later when my daughter was out again.

With Redbox, you need some planning. You can't just sit down and say, "Let's watch a movie." This way, we can browse and pick something together and start watching immediately.

We also like to watch old TV shows and there are a ton of them available through Netflix on disc and streaming.

I'd say I watch avg 1-2 movies each week at most. But that doesn't include going to the theater sometimes. If I don't watch a movie, about 3 hours total of my shows a week on my system. I will say with Netflix I "backup" a lot of my movies, and watch a later time. Although streaming on my PS3 (or various console) is quite convenient for TV shows and not having to wait for additional discs.

Not all Blu-rays are the same. Neither is HD. Depends on how the movie was shot and also the quality of the transfer. Some stations occasionally just covert the SD signal, format it for widescreen and transmit - looks pretty poor. Most, though, start with a true HD media and broadcast in either 720p or 1080i. To get 1080p you need Blu-ray.

Most looks pretty good to me. But I've been disappointed with a few. Some I got on Blu-ray to replace DVD copy, it wasn't so much better as to be worth the price - Star Trek 1-6 were that way, but those are pretty old movies.

We just dropped HBO for Netflix and it is fantastic! I can't believe it's taken this long to realize how much better Netflix is and that it was cheaper than getting HBO. I also worked my way onto my buddy's family Xbox Gold account so that offered some savings as well. Now I can use my Xbox instead of it just gathering dust! Netflix definitely rocks so far!

I've found that the 1 disk plan is adequate for us with the streaming feature.

A goody that Netflix has that most people don't know about is the search feature. You can stream concerts, yoga exercizes, etc. Just type in the subject or person that you're looking for and you will be amazed at the different genre's that are available.

I like the streaming feature, but very much miss subtitles. Even if more of the titles were added to streaming, I might stay on a disc subscription until closed-captioning is easily available. All that said, I am considering bumping down to one disc, from two.

We have the one disk plan. We also have the ability to stream content to both tvs in our house, one of which is an HD LCD.

Our DSL service is 3Mb/s, which means the picture quality is ok for standard definition or DVD quality dramas. But it's insufficient for HD material or anything w/ lots of motion (like an action flick).

I've considered moving to the streaming-only option, but the above issue is holding me back...

When we had DSL, streaming was very choppy. We switched to cable internet and now it is perfectly fine.

Thanks for heads up. I don't recall receiving a notice but sometimes my emails go to my spam box. I did catch it before the next billing! Yay me! I don't think we will die if we lower it to two.

I wouldn't go with streaming only since the library of streaming options is very limited compared to the DVD library.

I would always go with the 1 disc plan since you can always stream anyway. I have been thinking about giving a couple of months of netflix to someone to try it out. The only problem is that it is only for DVD and not blu-ray. But it would still be a fairly good way for them to know if they like it or not. What do you think? They can always stream.
