Make sure you chain the safe to some solid foundation. My friend's car safe walked away a few years back. He found the safe, tampered but unopened, on the side of I-95 20 miles away while driving back home pissed. He had it recondition and welded to the frame of his car the same weekend.

At one point last year, I used to carry it in a pocket in my backpack all the time. Not only was it crazy, but I found out that if I had been pulled over for speeding or something, the cops could have just seized my money - without any cause!

Isn't it great how the government looks out for us?

A buddy had looked in my pack for an ink pen and gave me the old WTF? He shamed me into going to the bank.
And he'll make sure to scare the crap out of you and became your friend by not charging you. Cops are human, they love money just like us. Evidence room's items find new homes all of the time.

I almost never carry cash, not because I don't like it 'cause I do, but because I'm the other way around. If I have it in my pocket I spend it.

If I could get some gold or silver stacked up on the table I bet that would amuse me for quite a while.

Now that's real cold, hard cash!

Yup, I wouldn't keep $25K in the house regardless of whether it's in a safe or not. Makes no sense to me.

Are there ATM machines that dispense hundred dollar bills? Or are you taking your leftover 20's to the bank and cashing them in for hundreds for the purpose of hoarding them?

I see no purpose of this thread other than to flaunt the fact that you are so wealthy you can keep $25K in cash sitting around your house to a forum full of people who are struggling to pay off debt and make ends meet. Either that or you are full of it.

I was hoping that this thread would lead to others saying that yeah, they too liked to keep money in the house, not because of any real need, but because they just like to have it. The amount is really irrelevant. Seems like I'm the only lunatic.

But yes, I am a rich a-hole, at least how the government defines it. Comes from hard work, planning and self-control. I've had a mountain of debt at times, so I know what it's like.

BTW, some ATM's dispense 100's if you get $500. Sometimes it's a mix of bills. Sometimes I cash in 20's and sometimes I exchange them in stores. I like 100's best.

I'm sorry, but since you've "put it out there", I think this behaviour is bizarre and obsessive. I can't believe you were actually carrying this around with you in a backpack before. That's nuts. What possible reason is there for keeping 25K in hundreds in your house? Why do you love $100 bills so much? I find that many places don't even accept $100 bills here, so they aren't really very useful as cash to just "keep around" IMO. I would also think that about $2,000 cash (maximum) should see you through any temporary emergency that might come up that would limit access to banking machines, etc.

BTW I found a picture of what wincrasher does with his money at home

I'm the exact polar opposite. I try to carry as little cash on me as possible (which is also really bad) and charge everything for points/cash back/rewards.

I'd be too worried about losing it or getting mugged/robbed. 25k sitting around vs in the bank at 1% is still $250! I can think of sooo many things to do with $250

LOL Gambler. But I'm too obsessive I guess to just pile it up like that. A wicked game of genga would be more my style!

Charging everything to get points/cash back is the mistake I made several years ago. While I have never been in debt and won't ever be in debt in regard to CC or anything other than my mortgage, I still ended up spending too much more than I should.

                        No mas.

I keep just enough cash to buy groceries & other essentials if the power goes out and I can't use credit cards or get to the bank for a week. Definitely not enough that I have to lose sleep worrying about a fire burning it or a houseguest (invited or otherwise) stealing it.

I don't *think* the behavior is *that* strange. Keeping a bit of cash around could be a good idea if you were accidentally passed some secret spy information by mistake and then had government agents trying to kill you. Or maybe I got that from a movie.

I always wanted to keep $10,000 in Krugerrands sewn into a belt or jacket...of course with the current price of gold, that would be just a couple coins

I used to keep 20K in my safe. (Same place I keep Kimber and Wilson Combat.) I took it out of the bank during the height of the financial crisis just in case. (You never know.) I never kept it just laying around the house. My safe is frigging big and heavy and bolted to the concrete floor but never the less I still returned the money to the bank once the crises was over. I never had the need to feel it or count it or see it. Just knowing it was in the safe gave me a confident feeling during the dark days.

How's that WC working out for you? I love to get one some day. It believe WC is a pinnacle of 1911. Currently, I pack a Norinco, aka poor man WC and cost about 15% as much. It is tough as the Great Wall itself.
