  • General Election Day

Just curious as to how many of you (those of you from the States) will be voting today. I'm stopping by the polling place when I get out of work.

On my way home from work.

Just read that there will be very high turnout for a mid-term election: around 40%. Shameful.

Wouldn't miss it for the world. Voted about 1pm. Even had to go to two different places(they changed my precinct and I forgot). Sounds like gridlock may be in the works which Wall Street generally loves but we'll see.

Absentee ballot about a month ago. I'm actually impressed by how much they've done to get overseas absentee ballots counted -- when I mailed mine here, the next day I got a notice with a tracking number to see where it is. They also express mail the ballots, which even from Japan, means it arrived within 3-4 days. This is the first year I've seen that.

I've only ever voted by absentee ballot, but how does it work for in-person voting? Most people don't get time off to go vote, so how does it work for people to have an opportunity to go vote? I've heard of proposals to make election day a holiday to increase voter participation... Do you all think that would improve voting rates?

Similar to absentee as far as the ballot. It's a different method from place to place and state to state but basically you go to your assigned polling place and fill out your ballot after showing ID. I live in a small area and was done in about 15 mins. I could have done absentee but I feel more patriotic going to the polls. Most people vote before or after work or at lunch. I generally take the day off, especially for presidential elections so that I don't have to stand in line.

voted this am after the b/4 work crowd and before the lunchtime group. the pleasures of being unemployed.

Local radio station is reminding people that they only get to ....complain IF they vote today.

My wife and I voted, but not today. We vote by mail so we sent in our ballots last week.
