  • Where have you sold your old cell phones?

I am not an ebay seller, I have listed items on my towns free online site though (which is similiar to craigslist) but it seems that the buyers tend to be better at showing up.

I have a bunch of cell phones I would like to sell, see I have alltel currently and tend to save my old phones as backup; well come the end of the year alltel will be switching to AT&T and I will have a bunch of phones that I will no longer be able to use as backups (AT&T is going to take our existing plan phone and swap it for a similiar AT&T phone).

I would like to sell all my extra cell phones now and pad the emergency fund but was wondering where other people have found luck at selling them. I would donate them as a LAST resort as $$ is really tight now and every little bit would help fund the Emergency Fund.

    Thanks for your help.

CL is free and more convenient in IMO, appeals to local buyers, cash up front advantage too. Though Ebay has fees, shipping process, wait for transfer of payment, but you'll have a wider range of potential buyers. I'm not familiar with Alltel phones, but if the phones a sim card, and are unlocked, they will have even more appeal to T-Mobile/AT&T users. In the past I sold my Iphones on Ebay/CL without any problems when the 3Gs first started appearing.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

I have sold cell phones for cash in the past. I can't now remember which site. Just google 'cash for cell phones' and you will get several companies that you can compare offers. Make sure it seems to be approved by the BBB. They should also pay for the shipping.

Some companies will buy them back. Other than that, Craigslist or some online classified service may be the way to go. There are several organizations that will take them as a donation, but you stated that you would rather avoid giving them away.

Thanks for the responses. I have to work this weekend but I hope to make some progress on this next week.

Definately Craigslist. I use it all the time for buying and selling.

I sold my last phones in Ireland so I used gumtree. Which would be the equivalent of Craigslist (so if I sold one in US it woudl be via Craigslist)

I've never sold any of mine. I literally use them until they fall apart, and I doubt anyone would buy them like that.

                    Iphone

I was going to sell my old Iphone on CL and in fact listed it. But I got so many weird folks looking to buy it that it both scared me off and since the activity was so high I thought I would list it on EBay. It sold for $170.00. So then I thought what they heck what else do I have hanging around? I found a 5 year old Escort radar detector that I listed on Ebay and sold for $172.00. I'll take it. I have some really old cell phones like Nokia and LG but they are really old and are just phones no internet or any advanced features at all. I don't think I will list those. The market seems pretty weak for the low technology phones.
