True about regional differences - I think The Street CEO is from the Twin Cities like me though. I do know it can swing by county though so what do I know? I just thought $1,800 sounded high for this area of the country.

              I know this is off-topic...

Who do I talk to if I want to find out how much house I can afford for X-dollars. Say, I'd like to pay $2,000 per month for mortgage, taxes, and insurance. I know there are online calculators but I feel like we have unique stuff we have to pay for in our area.

I think the online calculators will answer that question just fine. Obviously, taxes and insurance vary by region but you can get a good idea with a calculator. To get a good local answer, speak to a local lender or realtor.

Mortgage is $1768 prop tax included... plus $190 HOA.
Not bad for a brand new house just under 2000 sq feet in SoCal.

Very small town in rural Kansas, PITI is 884, which will be done in 5years. YEAH! PITI stands for Principal, Interest, Taxes, and either Insurance or Idiocy, I never can remember which.

Now zero, middle of the country USA, as it is paid off as of last September, but they were $353 plus apprx. $110 for insurance & taxes monthly. We purposely did not buy more house than we could afford on a salary that I could make if something were to happen to Hubster and I had to take on the breadwinner role.
