holy moly. my dh was laid off for a while but took a paycut to get back to work way before it ran out. I can't believe some might get 120 weeks? wow. I am sure there are pros and cons but wondering if this is true.
Logging in...
There might be 120 weeks of unemployment now?

It is insane and we've discussed it here quite a bit. Others disagree but I'm of the opinion that extending unemployment payments delays people returning to work because it removes the incentive and urgency to find work.Steve
* Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

I know of an entire family that has done nothing for over a year but collect unemployment. The crazy thing is the husband was a successful financial analyst and made a grip but when he got laid off he said the hell with it.

Unemployment is the new welfare. IMO, this recession will last as long or longer than the Great Depression. Funny how people lived through the depression without it , but without unemployment today, many claim there would people dying in the streets.
I actually heard Obama say that if people do not keep recieving benefits, they would have to turn to family members for help. What has happened to this country?

LOL wincrasher.....I can always count on you to throw a little humor on the subject.
We had a guy here where I work (government contractor) had his contract expire, so we offered to put him under my current contract and keep him busy. He turned down the offer so he could sit at home and draw unemployment. I just don't get some people.

Let them eat cake!!
Kidding, kidding!!
Sure as with any kind of safety net there are a few who will take advantage, but I believe the majority are hard working folks who want to work and are victims of the economy.
We have 10% unemployment and the jobs are just not there. Too many people and not enough jobs.
I say we give them the benefit of the doubt.

I saw a help wanted sign today, first in a long time! It was in a snow cone hut. Would a person lose their unemployment insurance if they take a 4 hour a day, 7 days a week job?"There is some ontological doubt as to whether it may even be possible in principle to nail down these things in the universe we're given to study." --text msg from my kid
"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." --Frederick Douglass

I called to apply for unemployment for the first time today and got a message saying they couldn't take my call because of the high call volume and to try back some other time (I don't see traffic letting up at all, anytime soon...). So, I then tried to file online and it said my application couldn't be processed and that I'd have to call to do it. wtf...
