Is this family crazy to not buy health insurance?

I'd say, crazy. I have seen too many HEALTHY people devastated by a medical emergency. Heck, I am in the midst of this myself (young spouse just had a brain tumor removed). But our health insurance means $6k out of pocket instead of six figures.

From my perspective, $200/month is a steal. But then again, is it worth anything? Having good health insurance has always been a priority for us. We are healthy as can be, but after 2 pregnacnies, and this, I'd say we got our money's worth.

In general HDHP plans are good for catastrophic insurance. Everything is out of pocket until you hit your deductible. Thu Thus, you pay cash for doctors' visits, and such. But big things are covered. You can probably pay cash for a normal pregnancy, but anything unusual would be covered. Cancer, car accidents, and issues at birth seem to be the common things that come out of nowhere and throw people for a financial loop.

      Thanks Mike!

MM take care and good luck! Me too, I thought I'd have an easy pregnancy and labor...turns out not so much.

That link is just the sort of thing I was finally finding info on when husband lost his job.

The link you gave looks alot better than what I had.

I started with the same company that does our kids ins, there was way to much fine print about if you were even allowed to get that sort of thing, and no one from the company wanted to help.
