Cschin - all due respect... you're an idiot.

Oh, OK. The fact that we promised to pay $100B of our tax money for phony baloney "climate" nonsense speaks loud and clear to me.

Let's leave out the personal attacks, please. There is nothing wrong with having an intelligent debate. It is fine for folks to disagree on policy or principle. It is not okay to come on here insulting people because you don't agree with them.

Steve - I see nothing wrong with all of us being a little more appreciative of what we have, learning to "make do" instead of always buying new and so forth. I think recycling and non polluting policies make sense. HOwever that does mean I must jump on board with every new imaginary environmental crisis that comes down that pike, that I must support theirs and only their solutions, that there are no alternative solutions and that is you don't support the world according the Enviro Garp, then you must be "uncaring" and all that. I will not accept that label, nor will I stand by and allow our businesses and children to be hijacked in the name of phony green.

cschin4, I'm certainly not arguing. I agree that some policies are poorly thought out and probably do more to line the pockets of those who create them than they actually do to help the environment.

I also agree that some of what passes as environmentally friendly isn't, like paper vs. plastic bags. The issues aren't that simple and knowing which product or technology is truly better for the environment is not so black and white.

steve - I am also tired of the hysteria over it and the judgements of people
who start with the "you don't care about the environment" nonsense toward people who disagree with them. They deem that paper is "better" than plastic and then you are supposed to follow suit EVEN IF it makes no sense or even less sense environmentally to do so.

I find for our family, recycling saves us money.
**My husband wears bibs--they, along with jeans when worn out make great shopping bags. For every bag I use, the grocery stores around here pay you 5 to 7 cents. I also recycle them into 5 x 5 squares, which make very very warm and heavy blankets--saving the cost of buying a new blanket every few years.

**We now use rechargeable batteries. Before we switched over, in one months time we spent almost $30 on batteries. (on a farm we use a lot of them for various fencers, flashlights.....) I spent around $100 and have 3 sets--one in our devices, one in the charger, and one set charged ready to go. Paid for itself in under 4 months, including the charger. One charger is solar powered, so it is even free to recharge.

**We buy many items in bulk--I reuse those containers--such as those for ketshup, miracle whip...I make our own soap and they make great soap storage containers

**Plastic we can't reuse, we take to the center. It is free to us (they charge to pick up, but free to drop off). Proceeds from it go to our local boy scouts as they run it.

**Our church youth group collects popcans. Last year made over $1000 on them--sending 10 kids to camp.

**My friend cuts plastic bags into strips and makes rag rugs out of them for under boots in the winter. Cute idea, gets the bags used again before they hit the landfill.

Even if you don't save or recycle for the environment, you can still do it for your pocket book.

I think our "throw away "mentality has reached into all areas of our lives. We now view each other, our relationships, etc as something to be discarded. Well, maybe not but you get what I am saying. I do think we have more of a "use it up" mentality or a "make do" mentality. Because no matter what we have it is never enough. We can have the world's greatest widget but there is always an upgrade, an accessory or another color to buy. It truly never ends.

Precycling and repurposing of items is a good idea and very effective.

                  Reducing needs certainly helps.

I have heard theories about how the global warming is false, but I certainly think it is real.

Incinerating is very toxic - you don't wan't to breath that junk.

Most landfills do pulverize the trash (even sofas/furniture/tvs) are made to bits and pieces and then buried. There are many tests they do to ensure certain standards of pollutionants produced that meet state/national requirements.

Interesting fact: recycling centers have to send back some 'trash' to the landfill. Sometimes can even be items that people put in recycle bins that are not recyclable.

Environmentally, glass and plastic are most definitely not in the same league. Glass can be 100% recycled over and over again. the components of glass are inert; same can't be said for petroleum-based plastics. Many plastics cannot be recycled, and will lay in landfills for hundreds of years before breaking down.

You're incorrect in saying that environmentalists say paper is better than plastic. There's been an ongoing controversy about which is "better," since paper bags involve destroying forests and cutting down trees vs. plastic, well everyone knows why that's not desirable...

Recycling is not a bad thing.. It actually saves Environment from green house effect, collection of methane gas etc...
