Recycling. Yes! You know it. There is much money to be gained and save from recycling plastic bags, used batteries and cartridges. And in addition, you'd be saving the world from accumulating harmful waste.

Our town has saved millions through our recycling program which has helped avoid further tax increases. First, they are spending tremendously less in dumping fees by not sending so much trash to the landfills. Second, they are selling the recyclable materials they collect to raise more money. Finally, it benefits individual residents directly because we participate in RecycleBank which is a rewards program that earns us points redeemable toward all kinds of products, services and discounts based on how much we recycle. I don't see a downside here.Steve

I don't see a downside here.
The downside is that environmental laws are often based on false science and warm fuzzies. And, that has real economic costs and damages as well. The idea that using a paper bag is somehow "better" than using a plastic bag is simply false. But, it gives people a "warm fuzzy". Using a recyclable bag is fine to a point, but to transpost packaged raw meat and so forth in a reusable bag is not without its risks and of course you can wash the bag but then you have to factor in using detergent, water, dumping that into the waste water system and energy to process that and so forth.
Also, we have and are going to spend BILLIONS on the phony, baloney hoax of global warming which is nothing more than an attempt of govts to seize power or for other govts to control each other.

So do you think recycling is a bad thing? Should we all just go back to burying all of our trash in landfills?Steve

We already do bury trash. We should incinerate it instead.
Yes, we do bury trash, but more than ever before, we recycle what can be recycled. I realize a lot of recyclable stuff still ends up in landfills but a lot less than in the past.
Do you really want everything incinerated and all of the resulting toxins released into the air?Steve

I see nothing wrong with recycling. In fact, I would love to go back to glass bottles. But, what I object too is the environmental movement which is nothing more than a thinly veiled political agenda who then try to browbeat people into conforming to their govt control. No thanks.

To me, recycling just makes sense.

Funny that you say that. Earlier, you said that paper bags aren't better than plastic bags. Glass vs. plastic bottles have the same argument. Lots of reasons why, despite being made of oil byproducts, plastic bottles are actually better for the environment than glass bottles. It is counterintuitive, just like with the bags, but that's part of what makes all the environmental stuff so difficult. Lots and lots of factors to be considered to determine which option is truly "better."
No, I just prefer the taste of soda pop in bottles rather than cans or plastic! Especially orange crush!
