Re: Who do you tip and how much?

I tip my server 20-30% depending on how good the service was. I usually tip the pizza delivery guy about $3. My hairdresser and nail tech about $5. I don't really patronize any other businesses where tipping is observed.

If out at a bar, I usually round up to the next dollar or leave a single dollar bill for the bartender.

I don't encounter doormen and casino workers often, if ever.

when I am at a bar, I tip $1 per drink (even during $2 beer specials). Doormen........ I never go to a place that has one. And I never check a coat/purse/etc.

I think we get extra good service at our restaurant cause all the girls know that we tip correctly. I have never been to a place with a doorman either!

I have been a waitress a lot of my working life and depending on what state you work in depends on you wage In Colorado I made 2.31 an hour because technically as long as my tips brought me up to minimum they were allowed to do that. I worked in a bar and I made way more than minimum wage but I also worked at a Marriott in a resort town in CO and the customers did not feel the need to tip. Many of them were European and as I found out in many countries in Europe, also Australia I think service workers are paid well above the minimum wage and that tips are not as expected.
I also waited tables in Washington and they are paid 7.63 an hour. With that said, when a tip is left it is supplementing their income instead of just bringing it up to minimum wage.
So, Yes I tip more than I should, but that is because I understand what it is like to have a bad night.
Oh yeah one more thing. In many restaurant situations the servers tip out their bussers, dish washers, and cooks. So when you are “stiffing” the server you are doing more than that. If you feel that the server was rude maybe just slip a dollar to the busser, you have no idea how much they appreciate it. (At least in my situations, yes I have also been a busser)
