This is an interesting discussion. My daughter told me she does this...she lives in a large city area and can access the internet whereever she is without paying. I have only used wireless here at home using my dsl modem and when in a resort area where I had to pay.
I would like to learn more about where I can use free wireless legally. It is hard for me to imagine that the internet will be free everywhere. Wouldn't that by like having free wireless phone service? Don't see that becoming free. Sounds great but are you sure it really is likely?

In the next 10 yrs Internet connection will be free everywhere. The DSL prices have come down from $70/mo to $14.95/mo in just the last 4 years.

I just wish Google would make downloading music free for everyone and demolish RIAA from existence. Even though I don't download any illegal music it just makes me angry at how greedy they are. They're asking ITunes to raise the prices and pushing FCC to mandate copy-right protection on the new radio devices

This is an interesting development with Google actually having solid information about making a wifi seervice. Free Internet service would be wonderful!

I use my own internet. Don't know about the ethics of using others wireless. But I hope people with wireless are aware they need to protect their information and need to be aware that if they do not have firewall and other protections anyone within a certain radius could be viewing there confidential information.

Google just announced an offer to provide free wi-fi to the city of San Francisco:
