OK, I don't mean to be the only dumb one here, but what is the purpose/advantage to gmail? I have never heard of it before. Of course, I have just installed Yahoo on my computer, and maybe that's why I have never heard of it.

When Gmail was first announced, it offered 1000mb of space. At the time both hotmail and yahoo were only offering 2mb I believe (a small amount) which meant you had to always delete messages to keep your account from going over the limit. Both have raised the amount of free space in response to google, so that is not as much of an issue as before.

The thing I find advantageous and why I won't go back is that I can search my email just like doing a google search. This makes finding older emails easy and efficient and saves me a ton of time.

I don't because getting access to it when traveling is a pain for me. Having an online account just makes it easier to access the information no matter where I am. Also, since our email is on the site, we get a ton of spam and viruses sent to us. It's easier for me to screen those through the online system. I save my internet provider email for personal messages only.

There is no right or wrong here. It just depends on how you use the account.

I don't use my ISP e-mail because its a lot harder to use than yahoo, or now gmail. Its not easy to access when I'm traveling for business, and I generally screen very carefully the mail I receive there. I'd like to keep one e-mail address as junk free as possible.

Gmail accounts can now be bought in the store for 300 points. Lots of people coming from the outside only to get the accounts which was fine, but I'd like the remaining ones to go to people here if they want them.
